Can Online Bingo Kill Off Traditional Bingo Halls
There is something intrinsically satisfying about shouting out “Bingo!” much to the dismay of your fellow participants all gathered in hope at a crowded bingo hall. A very simple game that anyone can play, Bingo has become one of the most popular and entertaining games both in America and all around the world.
The roots of Bingo can be traced back to the early 1500’s in Italy. “Lo Giuocu del Lotto d’ Italia” was a form of lottery and the precursor to a variety of similar games that began to flourish throughout Europe in the 1800’s. The game has been know to to be used as a way to teach children math, spelling and even history. The basic version of the game which is played today consists of either 75 or 90 balls, (depending on what part of the world you are playing in) which are marked with different letter/number combinations. The bingo caller will pick a ball out of the basket and announce the letter/number combinations to the players. If they have the number on their game card, they can then mark it off with a token or a dauber (a special pen-like ink stamp). The winner is the first person to complete a predetermined pattern, usually a straight line vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.
Bingo has become a very popular form of fundraising for many organizations. In fact, it was a Catholic priest who first thought to use the game to raise money. The largest Bingo game ever played had 60,000 players, so it is clear to see that the potential for using bingo as a method of fundraising is enormous. Not only is Bingo an enjoyable game, and an excellent way for organizations to raise money, but as the latest user data seems to show, a bingo hall is a great place for guys to meet gals. The statistics reveal that 80% woman daub the bingo card as apposed to 20% men.
Also, as people age, they are finding bingo to be a great way to keep their mental skills sharp. Some psychological studies indicate that regular bingo players do better on mental tests than people who do not play bingo. Whether played online or in traditional bingo halls, the game undoubtedly requires quick reactions, good hand- eye coordination, lighting mental speed, and intense concentration.
